Real-Time Well Surveillance and Production Optimisation Platform

We built a well surveillance platform that brings SCADA and historian data together with well models in one engineering workspace. Production engineers spot under-performing wells and flow assurance risks earlier.

Real-Time Well Surveillance and Production Optimisation Platform

Challenge

Data quality issues from aging instrumentation and strict offshore cybersecurity rules. We added data-quality scoring per tag and kept the architecture read-only from the OT side.

Approach

Real-time tags from offshore SCADA and the process historian are mirrored to an onshore data platform through a secure, one-way replication path. A well data model maps tags to wells, completions and flowlines. Dashboards show rate estimates, choke positions, pressures and temperatures against expected performance. Virtual flow metering models and exception-based alerts flag deviations, hydrate risk and slugging, and engineers can annotate events for a shared operational history.

Outcome

Exception-based surveillance across all wells instead of manual checks Earlier detection of production deviations and flow assurance risks Illustratively ~30–50% less time spent gathering and cleaning data Shared event history improves handover between shifts and teams Foundation for further optimisation and digital twin work

Problem solved

Engineers spent much of their time pulling data from multiple systems, and declining wells were often identified only in monthly reviews.
