Vessel Tracking, Voyage Performance and Emissions Monitoring

We built a fleet operations platform combining AIS vessel tracking, noon reports and weather data. Operations and chartering teams monitor voyages, fuel use and emissions in one place.

Vessel Tracking, Voyage Performance and Emissions Monitoring

Challenge

Inconsistent noon report quality and expensive satellite bandwidth. We built validation rules into the onboard app and a compact sync protocol that works over limited ship connectivity.

Approach

Satellite and terrestrial AIS feeds stream into the platform alongside digital noon reports submitted from vessels through a low-bandwidth app. Voyages are reconstructed with port calls, speed and weather exposure. Performance models compare actual fuel consumption with expected curves, and emissions are calculated for regulatory and charterer reporting (CII and similar frameworks). Geofenced alerts flag ETA changes, port arrivals and route deviations.

Outcome

Live fleet view with accurate ETAs for operations and chartering Earlier detection of fuel over-consumption and hull/engine issues Illustratively ~40–60% less effort compiling emissions reports Better-quality noon reports through onboard validation Data foundation for weather routing and charter-party claims

Problem solved

Voyage data came from emails and spreadsheets, fuel performance was checked monthly, and emissions reporting was a manual scramble.
