Port Terminal Gate Automation and Yard Visibility
Challenge
Integrating with a heavily customised TOS and varying data quality from external parties. We used an integration layer with validation and exception queues so issues were resolved without stopping the gate.
Approach
Truck appointments are booked through a portal integrated with the terminal operating system (TOS). At the gate, OCR cameras read container and truck numbers, and RFID tags and pre-advised documents allow automated validation. Kiosks issue yard instructions. Telematics from reach stackers and RTGs feed a yard visibility dashboard, and a messaging layer exchanges EDI (BAPLIE, COPRAR, CODECO) with shipping lines and customs systems.
Outcome
Illustratively ~30–50% shorter average gate transaction times Fewer data-entry errors through OCR and pre-advice Appointment system smooths truck arrival peaks Live yard and equipment visibility for planners Cleaner EDI exchange with shipping lines and authorities
